Junior Naval Architect

We are seeking a motivated Junior Naval Architect with a strong interest in applying AI and data‑driven tools to modern vessel design, analysis, and engineering workflows. This role is ideal for someone early in their career who combines traditional naval architecture fundamentals with emerging digital skills, and who is excited about shaping the future of marine design and innovation.

  • Support senior naval architects in the design, modelling, and analysis of vessels, components, and marine structures.
  • Produce 2D and 3D design work using CAD and naval architecture software (e.g., Rhino, AutoCAD, Maxsurf, Orca3D).
  • Assist with hydrostatics, stability assessments, weight estimates, and performance calculations.
  • Use AI‑assisted tools to streamline design processes, automate repetitive tasks, and improve modelling efficiency.
  • Contribute to the development of AI‑enhanced workflows, such as:
  • Generative design concepts
  • Automated hull‑form optimisation
  • Data‑driven performance predictions
  • Machine‑learning‑supported analysis and simulation
  • Prepare technical reports, drawings, and documentation for internal and client use.
  • Support prototype development, testing, and validation activities where required.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and R&D teams to integrate AI‑enabled solutions into real‑world marine projects.

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of naval architecture principles (hydrostatics, stability, structures, resistance & propulsion).
  • Experience with CAD and marine design software.
  • Practical exposure to AI tools or machine‑learning techniques (e.g., Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, AI‑assisted modelling tools).
  • Ability to analyse data, interpret results, and communicate findings clearly.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and a willingness to learn new technologies.

Desirable:

  • Experience with simulation tools (CFD, FEA).
  • Familiarity with optimisation algorithms or generative design.
  • Understanding of digital twins or data‑driven vessel monitoring.
  • Interest in sustainable marine technologies, alternative fuels, or next‑generation vessel design.

Personal Attributes

  • Curious, proactive, and eager to explore new technologies.
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high‑quality engineering work.
  • Ability to balance creativity with practical engineering constraints.

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to work on innovative marine projects blending traditional naval architecture with cutting‑edge AI.
  • Mentorship from experienced naval architects and data specialists.
  • Professional development and training in both engineering and AI‑driven design tools.
  • A supportive environment where new ideas and experimentation are encouraged.
