Falmouth Harbour is one of the UK’s leading natural harbours and a strategically important maritime gateway for Cornwall and the South West. Operating as an independent statutory Trust Port, Falmouth Harbour is responsible for the safe management, pilotage, development and conservation of a 62-square-mile harbour area encompassing the Fal Estuary.
The Harbour supports a diverse mix of commercial shipping, marine industry, leisure boating, cruise, pilotage and emerging marine sectors. It provides the statutory harbour authority and competent harbour authority functions, including navigation, pilotage, conservancy, marine safety and environmental management.
Falmouth’s scale and deep-water access make it an important centre for ship repair, marine engineering and commercial shipping, while its location and marine capability provide growing opportunities in offshore renewable energy, marine technology and the wider blue economy. The Harbour is also nationally significant for recreation, tourism and sailing.
Alongside its economic role, the Fal Estuary is an exceptionally important natural environment, containing internationally and nationally protected habitats and species. Falmouth Harbour therefore has a distinctive responsibility to balance safe navigation, commercial growth and investment with environmental protection.
The organisation employs around 44 people, serves approximately 1,500 customers and generated turnover of approximately £3.8 million in 2025.
